Summary:
Student Success Coach (Military).
This is a 12-month term appointment with reappointment contingent on job performance, in SIU Extended Campus at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Leads military recruitment efforts, completes Recruitment Plans, attends military recruitment functions as appropriate (at least 8 events annually); reports on the viability of recruitment efforts for annual planning purposes.
Guides students, develops and organizes outreach activities, and raises awareness of SIU programs and student services.
Follows up with recruitment event contacts (e-mails, phone calls, etc.
).
Uses CRM software to update student contact events, describe student outreach, etc.
Uses SIS software to support recruitment, enrollment, and retention efforts.
Uses problem-solving skills to create, sustain, and enact appropriate recruitment events and activities.
Develops, plans, and implements recruitment initiatives for students including under-represented populations.
Coordinates and schedules visits to colleges and other institutions to speak and present to groups and individuals.
Build connections with school counselors, administrators, faculty members, and other partners to promote outreach activities and recruitment of students.
Monitors retention trends and provides insights to SIU Extended Campus and academic units.
Assists with creating and implementing recruitment strategies to increase awareness and grow enrollment.
Assists with internal coordination of student recruitment and retention management goals utilizing specific knowledge gained of prospective student trends, admissions decisions, registration criteria, financial aid, academic performance, careers, scholarship information, and deadlines.
Ensures maintenance of all required files and processing of required forms and documents.
Leads the design and implementation of student advising, retention, and/or academic program functions to ensure needs of students are met for successful completion of degree program.
Uses problem-solving techniques to provide one-on-one advising to military students to ensure ongoing successful progress to the completion of the program.
Focuses on the military student perspective by traveling to military recruitment events, military installations, and assisting peer colleagues to navigate military students' concerns.
Responds to student questions and concerns within 24 hours using knowledge of the field, monitors student engagement, provides student support using text, social media, email, and phone calls of a significant volume in a fast-paced environment.
Provides accountability by working with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction with program and successful progress to completion, including at least 2X a month outreach to all current students.
Assists students to explore a variety of academic options and make timely progress towards completion of a degree.
Connects students with academic and personal resources including, but not limited to, tutoring, counseling, and career services.
Provides follow-up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services.
Engages in proactive outreach to students through positive reinforcement, building rapport, and establishing meaningful academic relationships.
Coaches students on developing a plan to achieve their academic and career goals.
Provides support for student accountability and success.
Identifies areas for growth and opportunity and creates a personal development plan.
Works to build student knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs that support success.
Works collaboratively and promotes the discovery process for problem-solving.
Works closely and collaboratively with academic program leadership and administrators to implement policies and practices in support of college, department, and university goals.
Acts as liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success.
Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services to facilitate comprehensive student support.
Assists with the planning and implementation of student programming activities such as new student orientation, seminars, special topic workshops, and joint programming with other community entities.
Assists with occasional program event planning and coordination.
Accountable to the Extended Campus leadership through regular meetings to monitor student academic progress using a variety of reporting tools.
Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure academic success.
Utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote academic standards and student success.
Supports academic assessment data collection and reporting in collaboration with academic units.
Performs needed assessment, evaluates and analyzes student support service effectiveness, develops recommendations, implements and takes appropriate action(s) to ensure efficiencies and accuracy.
Enacts knowledge of reporting tools with clarity in order to provide assurance that the student data is accurate.
Travel to military recruitment events, military installations, meetings, trainings, and conferences as needed.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Master's Degree; Two years of experience in higher education advising, student recruitment/retention or related student service.
Three
years of military experience.
Demonstrates a proactive and innovative approach to leadership that resulted in appropriate demonstrated outcomes.
OR Bachelor's degree; Three years of sales or recruitment experience with frequent client contact; Six
years of military experience.

Strong work ethic, character, personal integrity, and ability to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities.
Demonstrated track record of success in developing, maintaining, and cultivating long-term student relationships.
Must have great attention to detail, be very organized; be able to follow through on matters, work without constant supervision, and understand regulations, policies, and procedures that may affect SIU Carbondale's operations.
The position requires emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and tact, as well as maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
